A customer walks into your repair shop with their phone in hand, โ€œIโ€™m trying to turn my iPhone X on, but itโ€™s not responding.โ€

You take a quick look at it and try to figure out the issue, and ask what the customer has tried to switch the phone on, to which theyโ€™ll reply:

โ€œMy iPhone X was halfway charged last night. Put it on to charge. When I woke up in the morning, the screen was black and will not power on. I have tried the volume up down and then holding power on, still nothing. Iโ€™ve tried different charging cables and blocks. Nothingโ€™s working.โ€

After spending a few minutes analyzing the device, you take the device in for diagnosis through your cell phone repair shop software.

Given that youโ€™re reading this article, thereโ€™s a chance youโ€™re already in a situation like this. And now youโ€™re looking for ways to turn your customerโ€™s iPhone X back on.

But donโ€™t worry, weโ€™ve got your back.

Use iTunes To Access And Save The Data

Once you start the diagnosis through your cell phone repair shop software, access the phoneโ€™s data and store it. So that later, if you find that you need to reset the device, the customerโ€™s data wonโ€™t be lost. In addition, it will save you from a lot of trouble later if you encounter a severe hardware or software problem.

Plug the device into a computer and access iTunes. You can use Mac or Windows computer as long as it can allow you to access the iTunes account. Once the computer recognizes the device, create the phoneโ€™s backup on iTunes.

At times iTunes doesnโ€™t recognize the device. This brings us to our next question.

How to fix an iPhone X when iTunes wonโ€™t recognize it?

Most of the time, you may have trouble connecting iPhone X to iTunes. These connectivity problems stem from problems you can quickly solve.

Follow these troubleshooting steps to see if your problem gets resolved. If you canโ€™t resolve the issue, move to the next solution.  You can also add this list in the internal wiki in your cell phone repair shop software, so that all your technicians have access to it.

  1. Ensure that iTunes is installed on the computer.
  2. Check the USB cable.
  3. Use a genuine Apple USB cable.
  4. Analyze the iPhoneโ€™s port.
  5. Examine the USB port on the computer.
  6. Try to restart the iPhone X.
  7. Restart the computer youโ€™re using.
  8. Ensure that the iOS device is unlocked and on the Home screen.
  9. Download the latest version of iTunes.
  10. Update operating system software.
  11. Make sure to tap โ€˜Trust This Computer.โ€™
  12. Check the System Report.
  13. Disable or uninstall security software.
  14. Reinstall the Apple Mobile Device USB driver.
  15. Uninstall and reinstall iTunes

Once this bit is sorted, you need to consider a few other things.

Factors To Consider

What basically happens in most cases is that the device wonโ€™t turn on because of a crashed software. And that software needs resetting or restoring.

But there are also other cases where a hardware problem prevents the iPhone X from turning on. For example, itโ€™s likely that the customer got the device wet or dropped it accidentally. If that is the situation, give it a tech service.

So figure out whether itโ€™s a software or hardware issue. If you canโ€™t figure this out, then there are a few other reasons that stop the device from turning on.

Reasons Why Your iPhone X wonโ€™t Turn On

Here are a few possible causes why iPhone X wonโ€™t turn on. So, letโ€™s get to fixing it.

1.    iPhone Needs A Force Restart

iPhone X can be temporarily frozen and requires a manual reset. You can also do a force restart.

Press and release the volume up button. Then press the volume down button. Afterward, press and hold the power button. Wait for the Apple logo to appear. Once you see it, release it. This will help you switch it on.

Now since your customer has already done it, you must be thinking of skipping this one out. Itโ€™s always good to be double sure. It might work and help you avoid spending extra time on a device that just needed a restart.

2.    The Battery Might Be Dead

If the iPhone Xโ€™s battery is completely drained, the device will not immediately turn on, even if itโ€™s plugged into a power source.

So, connect the iPhone X to a power source and let it charge for around 30 minutes. Once itโ€™s been charged enough, try to turn it on again.

3.    Dirty Charging Port Or Cable

If the iPhone is still not working after charging for 30 minutes, check the charging cable and charging port. First, make sure that both are clean. If the charging port is blocked with debris or the charging cable has dirt, it will stop the battery from charging.

For that, clean the port cautiously with the help of compressed air or a toothpick with isopropyl alcohol. Be very cautious to ensure that you donโ€™t damage any part. Keep it aside and let it dry.

Also, try using an alternate charging cable or try to charge iPhone X with a wireless charger.

4.    Faulty Battery Or Charging Port

If still youโ€™re out of luck, and the iPhone X wonโ€™t turn on, the battery might be dead. And the charging port can be faulty as well.

Thus, replace the battery with a new one from the inventory of your cell phone repair shop software. Make sure that it is partially charged and see if the device turns on. If it still doesnโ€™t work, there may be a logic board or power board issue.

Consequently, if the iPhone X turns on, plug it in and see if the charging indicator appears on the screen. If it shows the charging sign, the lightning connector is working. And the cause was the bad battery.

But if it doesnโ€™t work, replace the lightning connector.

5.    Bad Power Button

If the power button is faulty, plug the iPhone X in the power source and see if the device turns on or not. If it doesnโ€™t, then the power button or the power cable might not be working.

So, for that, you have to test the power button. You will have to replace it if need be.

6.    Bad Display

If the display is not working, you wonโ€™t be able to see anything no matter what you try. So ultimately, you will end up feeling that nothing is working on the iPhone X.

A simple way to test this is by turning the device on and listening for any sound. Additionally, you can also move the mute toggle switch to see if it vibrates.

If you hear the vibrations or a sound, but nothing is visible on display, the display screen is the issue.

Replace it with a new one and check if itโ€™s still black or not. If youโ€™re successful, you can create an invoice through your cell phone repair shop software and move on to the next repair.

7.    Bad Logic Board

If the above solutions donโ€™t do the trick for you, chances are the logic board is faulty and needs replacement.

You have the option of replacing the entire board or diagnose and repair it through microsoldering. But, of course, that is if you offer microsoldering in your repair store because itโ€™s a whole new beast that amps up repairs and increases repair shop revenue.

It will surely do the trick and turn on the iPhone X.

Final Word

As you can see, fixing an iPhone X that wonโ€™t turn on is a simple process. Ensure that you follow all the steps and donโ€™t miss out on anything that can later cause any trouble for your repair store.

Now that you know all the causes, you can figure out the issue within a few minutes. Itโ€™s not only efficient but will also fulfil customer commitments.

So, what are you waiting for? Get to work and fix that iPhone X.
